THE HEARTHSIDE GROUP ETHOS

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED

Over the course of building our business, we have embraced the internet, raised children, welcomed grandchildren, and represented countless individuals when they chose to buy and sell their hospitality properties.  Here are some of the enduring truths about this industry we have observed over thirty years:

Hospitality is about fun– simple- have a little fun every day!

Be brave- bravery comes with a measure of fear and vulnerability, but it always pays off!

Business cycles are inevitable– they will repeat- enjoy the ups, expect the downs.

Every property has merit– there is inherent value in every opportunity that the right buyer will appreciate- there is a perfect buyer for every property!

There is no shame in selling– when it’s time to list your property, embrace the process; it is in no way a failure.

Look forward– reflect on the past, don’t dwell, and embrace the future.

Principle is everything- overlay all decisions with principle, and they will be sound.

We have spent over thirty years leading buyers and sellers through transactions with courage, passion, and always a little fun.

"Wendy, I have been thinking of you lately and would like to thank you once again for your HUGE role in our selling the inn. We both appreciate your professionalism, accessibility, and knowledge in facilitating a successful sale and change of ownership. We are truly grateful. Though I truly loved my ten years at the inn, I am happy (and relieved) to start a new chapter and thank you so much for your part in making my ten year plan and dreams a reality."

"Wendy, I attribute this success to your gentle persistence and graceful, dignified, and straightforward communications."

"Wendy was instrumental in helping my partner and I find the right hospitality property for us. She asked probing questions to help us identify exactly what is important to us, then showed us things that met our criteria. Proactive and well timed follow up and counsel helped us find our dream property. We consider her our fairy godmother of commercial real estate."

"We hired Wendy to help sell our inn in Vermont. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable about the inn business, but what we appreciated most was her caring for us - not as clients, but as people who were selling their 'dream'."

"Wendy has been a resident of the Burlington area all of her adult life and involved closely with property and real estate. Her successes many. Her presence and enthusiasm outstanding. Wendy handles all opportunities with sincere honesty and grace. A very hard working person capturing the moment in a timely manner and acting with confidence."

He was instrumental in explaining all the nuances of different offers, the pros and cons of details in the decisions that needed to be made, and a host of other aspects that might have escaped our complete understanding. Without Gary’s guidance, this would have been a minefield we were not entirely prepared for. Besides that, Gary was pleasant to be with, always available, and immediately responsive to any demand in this process. We give Gary our wholehearted recommendation.”

“Thank you so much for all of your help in making the process in purchasing the Inn easier than one could expect. This couldn’t have been done without your knowledge, expertise of the business and the industry along with your constant check-ins ensuring everything was going alright. We truly appreciate everything you’ve done for us, and making the Inn a dream come true.”

Stowe, Vermont

“We had the privilege of working with Gary at The Hearthside Group back in 2002 when we purchased our Vermont Inn. He always followed up quickly on our information requests, walked us through the buying process, was super easy to work with, and very resourceful. Gary handled the purchase of our Inn with such ease that we hired him when we decided to sell our Inn years later. If you are looking for a true partner to assist you in selling or buying an Inn, The Hearthside Group is the team you’ll want to work with.”

Waitsfield, Vermont

“It was more than a pleasure to work with you on this transaction as well. And I mean more. It wasn’t just that you were sociable and easy to talk to. I knew right from the start that you had the perspective and instincts (probably well-honed over the years) to make this happen. I’ve worked with many brokers over forty years of law practice, and I know this deal might not have worked out well. …The odds of working together again may not be great, but the odds of referring to you are”.
